How can data science help manufacturers to improve yield?
How can data science help a food manufacturer to improve yield and quality, and reduce costs and food waste?
Alexander Daehne, Manufacturing Industry Lead EMEA at SAS, provided a more than convincing answer to that question. He did so by presenting a successful data analysis project recently conducted by Team HAI-Notilyze. His presentation took place at the June 2023 SAS Innovate on Tour event in Amsterdam. It concerned a successful analytics project for a cheese manufacturer, a project that was recently designated as the winner of the manufacturing track at the Global 2023 SAS Hackathon.

Team HAI-Notilyze is a partnership between HAI and Notilyze. HAI is a cloud software provider that offers a ground-breaking manufacturing data application called hai-app. As a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application on the Microsoft Azure Cloud, hai-app enables manufacturing teams to transform to data-driven organizations and an empowered workforce. By providing all employees with tailored access to relevant data and valuable insights, they are equipped to make informed decisions and take actions that contribute to their improved performance. This enables them to have a deeper understanding of their work, identify areas for improvement, and effectively align their efforts with organizational goals. Ultimately, this data-driven empowerment leads to increased productivity, efficiency, and overall success.

“Of all the analytics projects competing in the manufacturing track of the global SAS Hackaton, this is one of my favorites”, Alexander said.
As the manufacturing industry experiences rapid technological advancements and global events, it has become more important than ever for manufacturers to transform their operations, reduce costs, improve efficiency and sustainability.
The Manufacturing Industry session of SAS Innovate in Amsterdam, hosted by Sander Huysmans from SAS, focused on exploring how digitalization, data and analytics enable manufacturers to achieve these goals and drive change.
Other presentations for the Manufacturing Session of SAS Innovate were from Microsoft and Euromax. Matt Walsh from Microsoft presented his views on the topic and explained how Microsoft plays an important role to support the digital transformation in the manufacturing industry. Hands-on experiences were shared by Peter Wijers from Euromax: successes and learnings from his data analytics team. The presentations from Alexander, Matt and Peter were inspiring and insightful, and sparked lively interaction with the audience on how to apply AI and analytics fast and scalable in their own organization.
