Artificial Intelligence to improve sustainability at French fries producer Lamb Weston
Use case: Artificial Intelligence
Improve sustainability at French fries producer Lamb Weston
How can the HAI Cloud Data Platform and Artificial Intelligence contribute to sustainability at French Fries producer Lamb Weston EMEA? This question was central to the project team’s kickoff meeting at Lamb Weston’s Dutch factory in Kruiningen. The program included a tour of the factory, highlighting every step of the production process.
With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Lamb Weston gives high priority to reducing energy and water consumption. There is also an emphasis on maximizing potato utilization. To this end, Data analysis and Artificial Intelligence may provide new insights and opportunities for improved process control.
Work smarter, not harder
Continuous improvement and innovative collaboration are in Lamb Weston’s DNA. That’s why software provider HAI has been asked to join forces with Radboud University Analytical Chemistry & Chemometrics to enable sustainable improvements using Operator Dashboards and Artificial Intelligence. In the words of Jeroen Jansen, Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry & Chemometrics at Radboud the aim is: “to work smarter, not harder”.
Minor adjustments, Major results
With 26 factories worldwide, Lamb Weston is a global player in frozen potato products. At the Dutch factory in Kruiningen 150 trucks, each carrying 35 tons of potatoes, are processed daily in a series of operations: sorting, scrubbing, peeling, washing, cutting, frying, freezing, and packaging. This is done entirely automatically and at high speed. Given these quantities, small process adjustments can lead to significant improvements.
HAI Cloud Platform at the heart of EBI Innovation Program
This project is part of the Engineering Business Intelligence (EBI) program led by Radboud University and the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology.
The HAI Cloud Data Platform and the associated NextGen Interactive Operator Dashboards play a central role in this Program.
