Yakult Quality Dept. goes paperless & speeds up reporting
Yakult succesfully implemented the HAI Cloud Data Platform in its production facilities in Almere, The Netherlands.
Yakult is worldwide known for its probiotics and other functional food products.
The European headquarters of the Yakult Group in Almere is the central production facility for the Eurpean market.
In a few months time Yakult managed to move from paper-based records to a real-time database and substantially improved reporting.
Saving valuable FTE’s on error prone Excel reporting activities, they free up time to identify process improvement opportunities based on trending and analytics from HAI.

Connecting Quality measurements to Batch processing data and Operator logs
Heleen van Veen, Quality & Environmental Department Manager, comments: “Initially, we were looking for an easy-to-use database to store our quality test results, and to automatically generate our standard reports. We found a couple of software packages fit for this purpose. The reason why we eventually selected HAI is that we are able to enhance its use to the production department and automatically collect data from the production process. This enables us to connect the batch test results in the lab, with the batch processing conditions in the plant and Operator logsheets.
Other aspects that supported the choice for HAI were the out-of-the box data analysis features, the sampling schedules, and the exception reports.
Microsoft Azure Cloud
Can Ersoz, IT Manager at Yakult Europe, made a very deliberate choice for the Cloud: “Our strategy is to outsource activities which are not part of our core-business. We know that our data is save and secure in HAI (ISO 27001 certified) and do not need to worry about a server, software installation, system management and updates.”
What’s Next?
Due to the pilot’s success, HAI Logsheets have now been rolled out across all departments in the factory. The next step is to integrate data from in-process laboratory measuring instruments directly into HAI Logsheets. This will lead to further improvements, enhancing measurement quality and linking data from the wet and dry stages of the production process.
